Due to limited relief capacity in an existing commercial service regulator at a natural gas utility, overpressure protection was required for the downstream system. Traditionally, overpressure protection was achieved by means of a secondary overpressure protection device (relief valve and a vent stack). Unfortunately, the relief valve and vent stack increases the cost, installation time, meter set footprint, and number of connections for potential leaks.
A Fisher CS800IQ Commercial Service Regulator was selected and installed that provided an increase in relief performance over the existing regulator. In the event of an overpressure occurrence, the CSR800IQ also satisfies the downstream system protection relief requirements. This eliminated the need for a secondary overpressure protection device and associated piping.
The CS800IQ high capacity relief satisfied the downstream system overpressure protection requirement, alleviating the need for a secondary overpressure protection device. This eliminated the cost of the secondary overpressure protection device itself, and also reduced the cost and time needed for fabrication and installation. Finally, this change also eliminated the potential leak point associated with a secondary overpressure protection device, no longer required with this upgrade to the Fisher CS800IQ.
