We Love STEM, Elementary School Science and Engineering Fun!
Control Southern engineer Matthew Dickerson was asked to share some fun demonstrations with an elementary school class in Tennessee. After putting on their lab coats and safety glasses, the students participated in several demonstrations relating to the density and specific gravity of fluids. The students observed raisins dancing, plastic beads that would not float or sink, and used what they learned to design their own boats….then tried to sink them. “It is wonderful to see the smiles created from learning about Science and Engineering,” said Matthew Dickerson, PE. “One student told me that this was the ‘best day ever’ and another told me that she wants to be a Scientist.”

Pumpkin Decorating Contest Creates Smiles
The first annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest at Control Southern was a huge success! More than 20 artistically talented employees participated in the Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Designs included everything from silly to spooky. With so many unique pumpkin designs employees had a hard time choosing a winner. When voting was tabulated, four winners were selected – 1st, 2nd and a tie for 3rd. The decorated pumpkins were then delivered to Sunrise Senior Living in Johns Creek. Residents at Sunrise were all smiles when Control Southern’s own Georgie Renz delivered the pumpkins! Pictured are the winners (from left to right) – Stephanie Carman, Doug Key, Geoffrey Head and David Smith.
